2010 Playlists

1/5/2010 Dig Up The Roots

The music in this show is from the mid 1920’s through the late 1930’s, with a few weird Rock N’ Roll exceptions from the 1950’s. Parlor tunes Piano rolls; rowdy questionable behavior; Crooners Cowboys, we got it all right here in Americanaville.

Many musical events and sounds forged the bastard child of music that they eventually called Rock N’ Roll. We heard bits and examples of some, it would take years to get to the bottom of this.

Some of this music I have gotten on cassettes many, many years ago. When there is not accurate Label +/or Artist information, there will be 1 of 2 notations: UA stands for Unknown Artist. NA stands for Not Available.

1/26/2010 Dig Up The Roots

Yiddish Swing Brazilian 78 RPM records sound so good when the music is let out of them. We played a lot of 78 RPM records on this show. Some great, near great, way out and WTF? Doris Day, Louis Armstrong and a few versions of the tune Delicado.

Robert Gordon Link Wray began the rockabilly set off – always a crowd pleaser it seems. We stayed away from the big names and tried to play some of the odder stuff. Signifying Monkey is a great tune allowing lots of bragging and boasting. Some versions cannot even be brought within 100 yards of a radio station without causing the FCC to blush.

2/2/2010 Dig Up The Roots

This show was all over the place and all over time. Wishing for spring with the likes of Astrud Gilberto, Blossom Dearie and one of the original English ‘Hippies’ – Vashti Bunyon.

Texas swing swung out with a series of 10 records on Decca, including Adolf Hofner who sang in both English Czech.

Beatnik jazz stylings led into a nice cover set of Kraftwerk tunes – how can this be done? You can’t mix genera and music styles like that on the radio…
