Doc Rock was in-studio for this show and, once again, blew our collective minds with an amazing show of very early gospel, minstrel, sacred and show music from the late 1890’s thru the early 1930’s. Doc’s knowledge and unique interpretation of music shines in this show from 2007. You will hear haunted and beautiful voices through hundred year old static / some of the earliest recorded examples of songs later made popular by the 60’s Folk and Rock scenes / Rock and Doo Wop styles decades before those terms existed.
The material presented was taken from two available collections. Lost Sounds: Blacks and the Birth of the Recording Industry 1891 – 1922 on Archeophone and Goodbye Babylon on Dust-to-digital. The first set was a Grammy winner. There is also a hard cover book with the same name. The second is a massive 6 CD set that is the largest, inclusive and most diverse compilation of American gospel music from the early days of recording.
